FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is Pelvic Health Physio?
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy is a specialized area of physiotherapy that focuses on the pelvic floor muscles, core, bladder, bowel, and reproductive health. It can help people experiencing pelvic pain, bladder or bowel concerns, pregnancy-related discomfort, postpartum recovery challenges, and other conditions affecting the pelvis.
Our goal is to help you move with confidence, reduce symptoms, and improve your quality of life through evidence-based assessment and treatment.
What can I expect in my first appointment?
Your first appointment will include a detailed conversation about your symptoms, health history, goals, and concerns. Your physiotherapist will then perform an assessment, which may include evaluating your posture, breathing, movement patterns, strength, and core function.
Together, we will create a treatment plan tailored to your needs and goals. You will leave with a better understanding of your symptoms and practical strategies to begin your recovery.
Who would benefit from receiving a Pelvic Health Assessment?
Pelvic Health Physiotherapy may be helpful if you are experiencing:
• Bladder leakage, urgency, or frequency
• Constipation or bowel dysfunction
• Pelvic pain or pressure
• Pain during intercourse
• Pregnancy-related aches and pains
• Postpartum recovery concerns
• Pelvic organ prolapse symptoms
• Diastasis recti (abdominal separation)
• Persistent low back, hip, or tailbone pain
You do not need a diagnosis or referral to book an assessment.
Do I have to do an internal exam for my Pelvic Health physio to be effective?
No. An internal assessment is never required and will only be performed with your informed consent.
While an internal exam can provide valuable information about the pelvic floor muscles, many concerns can be assessed and treated using external techniques, movement assessments, education, and exercise. Your physiotherapist will discuss all options with you and ensure you feel comfortable every step of the way.
If I have my period, do I need to reschedule my appointment?
No! Having your period does not mean you need to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
If you are comfortable, an internal assessment can still be performed during menstruation. If you would prefer not to have an internal exam while on your period, your physiotherapist can adjust the appointment and focus on other aspects of your assessment and treatment.
Your comfort and preferences will always be respected.
